The club was founded on 11 August 1987. Ovan Tobing, Acub Zaenal and Dirk Sutrisno were the club founder. Arema's nickname is Singo Edan taken from the August horoscope which is Leo and represented by the lion (Singo). The fans are called Aremania.
Former 2014 Indonesia Super League semi-finalists Arema Cronus FC switches kit's provider from Joma to Specs. Singo Edan (The Mad Lion) will wear a three kit match range from Specs for their upcoming Super Liga runs. All shirts use the "clown" design.
Arema Cronus 2015 Specs Home Away Third Jersey - The Arema 2015 new kits have widely criticized by fans.
